Privacy policy of the browser extension Save to Se8rch
What the extension does
Save to Se8rch saves a web page that you choose as a Markdown file with its images into the Se8rch app on your own computer. If you ask for it, a PDF of the page as it appeared on your screen is saved with it.
Which data the extension reads
Only from the page on which you click the extension's button or use its keyboard shortcut, and only at that moment:
- the content of that page (the article, your selection or the visible page, as you choose);
- the title and the address (URL) of the page;
- when the page states them: the author, the site name, the publication date and the description;
- what you type yourself in the extension's window: the title, your tags, a note and a rating;
- if you tick the PDF option: screenshots of the tab while the extension scrolls through the page. The extension turns them into a PDF with the address, the time and the page number at the bottom of each page.
Where that data goes
Only to the Se8rch app on the same computer, at the address http://127.0.0.1:7705 (or the port you set yourself). That address does not leave your computer. Through that same address the window also asks Se8rch for the tags you already use, so you can pick them. The extension sends nothing to a server of Daylight bv, to a cloud or to any other party.
Images
To save the images of the page, the extension downloads them from the website the page gets them from, without sending cookies. As when you simply view the page, that website sees a request for that image.
What the extension stores itself
Only the pairing code and the port number you enter in the settings, and your PDF choice (on or off, and the layout), in your browser's storage on this computer. No history, no page content.
What the extension does not do
No analytics or statistics, no advertising, no tracking, no sale or transfer of data to third parties, no code from outside the extension.
What Se8rch does with it
The Se8rch app writes the clip as a folder with a Markdown file, an images subfolder and, if you asked for it, the PDF, into the inbox you chose in Se8rch. Se8rch keeps your note and rating with that clip, on your own computer. What happens to those files afterwards (which folders Se8rch searches, whether you synchronise that folder) is up to you, in the app and on your own computer. That is outside this extension.
Deleting
A clip is an ordinary folder on your computer: you delete it like any other file. The pairing code and your PDF choice are removed together with the extension when you uninstall it.
